FUNBASH Brings Jumbo Games and Family Fun to NYC’s Open Streets
This August, FUNBASH joined the New York City Department of Transportation for Open Streets, bringing jumbo games and family fun to weekend activations across Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan.
The citywide initiative invites New Yorkers to experience their streets in a different way—to walk, run, ride bikes, and enjoy time outdoors together. FUNBASH was excited to contribute to that experience by giving families a place to stop, play, and share some friendly competition.
Our jumbo games brought big fun to the streets, welcoming children, parents, and neighbors into the action. Families challenged each other, cheered on young players, and enjoyed the excitement of familiar games on a larger scale. Whether someone stopped for a quick round or stayed to enjoy several games, each interaction added to the community spirit of the day.
The best part was seeing generations play together. Parents joined their children, siblings tested their skills, and spectators became participants. These August weekends created opportunities to put everyday routines aside and enjoy a few joyful moments together.
Across all three boroughs, the enthusiasm of participating families made the experience special. Every shared laugh, thoughtful move, and celebration reminded our team why we do what we do: bring people together through play.
For FUNBASH, partnering with NYC DOT on Open Streets was a meaningful opportunity to bring our games into shared neighborhood spaces. We were proud to contribute to an initiative that encourages people to get outside, get moving, and connect with their communities.
This unique venture also showed how games can complement an active day outdoors. Alongside walking, running, and bike riding, our activations gave families another way to engage with the streets and with one another. Being part of that experience across Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan meant a great deal to our team.
